This is by far my least favorite in the series, but I still give it 4 stars because of the other storylines. Up until this book I had always seen Vishous as the wise one who carries a lot on his shoulders. Since he can see the future, he has stated that he has seen the Brothers die but does not know when or how their death will come about. That's a huge burden and add on top of that the ability to hear people's thoughts, it has isolated him from the others as they cannot possibly understand what he goes through. In this book his visions have stopped and he can no longer hear the minds of others, instead of being a relief it worries and stresses him out. Dr. Jane Whitcomb saves his life and he is immediately smitten with her. Their story isn't exactly sweet or romantic, they're both extremely intelligent and not very affectionate. Vishous meets his mother in this book and she tells him that she has a future planned for him, he doesn't want it but it's important for the survival of the Vampire race. The ending made my jaw drop, I was thinking "No Way..." the entire time. If you think other couples go through a lot... you haven't read the story of these two. I'm not saying they didn't deserve happiness, but I felt that a lot of rules were bent in order for them to be together.
