Halo by Alexandra Adornetto

From Goodreads: Nothing much happens in the sleepy town of Venus Cove. But everything changes when three angels are sent from heaven to protect the town against the gathering forces of darkness: Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, a teenage girl who is the least experienced of the trio. They work hard to conceal their true identity and, most of all, their wings.

But the mission is threatened when the youngest angel, Bethany, is sent to high school and falls in love with the handsome school captain, Xavier Woods. Will she defy the laws of Heaven by loving him? Things come to a head when the angels realize they are not the only supernatural power in Venus Cove. There′s a new kid in town and he′s charming, seductive and deadly. Worst of all, he′s after Beth.

There are many mixed reviews on this book so I tried to read it without thinking of the reviews I've read. Yes there is religion in the book (it is about angels after all) but I did not find it preachy or annoying, perhaps because I was raised in a Catholic home I understood what they were talking about and did not mind it. I did not really like Bethany's character, she seemed a bit clingy and immature, but it is understandable as she is new to the world. I enjoyed the book and it was one of those I thought about when I was not reading so I can say it held my attention with a firm grip. Oddly enough it was not the main guy I was interested in reading about, but rather I loved reading about Bethany's "brother" Gabriel. Talk about swoon-worthy, he's a strong angel warrior (what's not to like?) I am looking forward to the next book!

I give this book 3.5 owls!

  1. I've read some really mixed reviews of this one as well but I love the overall premise, angels are always interesting to me. I'm glad to see you didn't find it preachy though, that's always something that bothers me. Lovely review!
